Rosalinde Bakker

Born in 1967 Maasluis, the Netherlands. Rosalinde Bakker is a conceptual artist who approaches universal themes through contemporary eyes.

She began her artistic journey at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam in 1987. A year later, she first exhibited her work, participating in a land art group exhibition in the Hoeksche Waard region of the Netherlands. In 1991, she graduated with honours. Since then, her practice has grown steadily, leading to numerous solo and group exhibitions as well as commissioned public artworks.

Through painting, sculpture, and installation, she explores storytelling through colour and form. Using universal themes and concepts as a basis, not to judge, but to ask and explore.  As a conceptual artist, she moves freely between materials, media, and themes, feeling equally at home in 2D and 3D. Her practice is driven by research, intuition, and an ongoing desire to explore new subjects and horizons.

Rosalinde’s art is marked by using colour as a means to transmit a message. Her art evolves layer by layer until its composition can show the theme in its purest form. The process of making art aligns with her view, because her work may sometimes feel very diverse or accidental.

This is not out of doubt, but out of genuine curiosity and a deep interest in the character of things and the connections between them, and is like reality diverse, colourful and not definitive. Her work reflects an affectionate engagement with society, forming what could be described as a quiet document humain: art that observes, questions, and offers hope without insisting on conclusions.

This extra dimension of human understanding in some of the great questions one can have make her artwork so humanlike and four-dimensional in their meaning.

Like an individual they are light, colourful, and full of energy, capable of transmitting joy and warm emotions to everyone who encounters them. At the same time, they reveal depth, imagination, and a dreamlike dimension that makes them truly unique.

All of her works are signed with the initials ARB, short for Astrid Rosalinde Bakker, her full birth name.
